We spoke with our friends at Take a Seat Events about winter wedding dresses and they offered helpful tips to make your special day sparkle. From flannel to metallic motifs, these ideas will make you and your guests feel like they just stepped into a romantic winter wonderland!

Wedding trends grow and evolve yearly. A few years ago, cupcakes were all the rage for wedding dessert, and now cakes have started to wheel their way back into brides’ hearts. These trends will have your wedding looking in the moment and timeless all at once! And feel free to mix and match with these trends. You don’t have to stick to just one.

Metallics

If you’ve recently been to a wedding or read a bridal magazine, you may have noticed gold, silver and various metallic motifs making a statement. Winter is the perfect time to add some sparkle and shine!

You’d be surprised how easy it is to incorporate metallics into your wedding décor. Sure, you can use gold and silver cutlery, but adding something a little extra like metallic candle sticks and vases can add some extra dazzle to your table.

 Even the food can have some sheen to it. Talk to your baker about doing something like this gold-painted cake for your big day. Most bakeries have (or have access to) metallic luster dust they use to paint your cake or even smaller desserts like cookies and macaroons.

 And don’t forget to make yourself shine, too! Add some metallic elements to your wedding fashions with sequin bridesmaid dresses or a cardigan sweater for yourself. Doesn’t it look beautiful with the snow? It most certainly does.

Plaid

 From the glamor of metallics to the warmth and coziness of plaids, this latter pattern has become common in fall and winter weddings.

The team at Take a Seat Events says, “Flannel is really popular right now, whether it’s incorporated in the table setting or used in a small way, such as the groomsmens’ pocket squares; it’s always a fun detail.”

Even the bride can get in on the action. This bride stays warm and cozy in her plaid flannel while taking pictures with her groom. It’s still classic and elegant, but plays well with a rustic chic theme.

Textured Linens

Whether it’s the tablecloth, runner or napkins, textured linens are popular for winter weddings. The tablecloth above combines two trends – textured linens and metallic – with the gold sequins.

This woven tweed runner adds some texture and interest to the simple white tablecloth. If you wanted a more rustic look, you could leave the table bare, so the wood is exposed, adding the textured runner down the middle.

Lace is a wedding staple, but there is something elegant about delicate lace at a winter wedding. It’s a beautiful classic, and even a little vintage. If you have some antique lace from close friends or family members, what a distinct way to incorporate your “something old.”

A great way to incorporate the winter fur trend into the bridal party but still make sure the bride stands out is to have the bride wear a different color fur than the bridesmaids.

When we talked to the team at Take a Seat Events, they gave some ideas for special touches that help tie the winter theme to your wedding. They include gifts to give to your guests, activities for the reception, and even food and drink ideas!

Themed Stations

Having special stations where guests can enjoy winter treats like hot chocolate and fire roasted s’mores are a unique way to create some winter magic during your wedding. To make it a little more special, set out extra goodies like flavored syrups and candies for the hot chocolate or a variety of chocolates and marshmallows for the s’mores!

Take-home Blankets

This is a brilliant idea, especially if you’re having an outdoor ceremony. Giving guests blankets they can warm up with and take home are practical and a fantastic wedding favor that your guests will actually want to use. You can leave the blankets sitting on your guests’ seats or in a bin at the entryway to the ceremony.

Comfort Food

Very little makes you feel warm and cozy like some delicious comfort food. Serve your guests dishes like macaroni and cheese, chili or even shooters of tomato soup with grilled cheese dippers!

Comforting winter drinks would also work – something like mulled wine or spiced apple cider add a special touch
